A total of 438,126 students from senior high schools, vocational schools, special education schools, and equivalent institutions in East Java are registered to take the Academic Aptitude Test, or TKA. According to Kompas.com, the online test is being administered at the students' respective schools from October 26 to November 8, 2026, based on a schedule divided into several rounds.

Technical readiness draws attention

East Java Governor Khofifah Indar Parawansa asked the East Java Provincial Education Office, regency and municipal education offices, regional education branches, and school principals to ensure that technical and administrative preparations are complete. Computers, internet networks, electricity supplies, testing rooms, proctors, and technicians must be ready before the test begins.

Khofifah also called for contingency measures and clear reporting channels so that any problems can be addressed immediately. Schools administering the test independently were asked to provide uninterruptible power supply units for servers and proctors' computers. Generator sets should also be prepared where possible.

Head of the East Java Provincial Education Office Aries Agung Paewai said his office was coordinating with several parties to prevent technical disruptions. ANTARA News East Java reported that the coordination involved PT PLN and PT Telkom Indonesia's East Java regional offices to anticipate electricity or connectivity problems during the TKA.

Registered participants reach 94.54 percent

According to East Java Provincial Education Office data referring to the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education's central TKA dashboard as of October 16, 2026, a total of 438,126 students had registered. This figure represents 94.54 percent of the 463,397 prospective participants.

The phased implementation is expected to help schools manage facilities and testing sessions. Each participant also needs to understand the schedule and test session they must attend so that the test can proceed in an orderly manner without causing confusion.

Students encouraged to remain calm and honest

In addition to technical facilities, students' mental readiness has also drawn attention. Khofifah asked teachers to provide psychological support, while parents are expected to offer positive encouragement without burdening their children with excessive demands regarding their scores.

Khofifah reminded participants to remain calm and confident and to uphold honesty while taking the test. She said the TKA could be an opportunity for students to demonstrate their learning outcomes while helping them recognize their individual abilities and potential.

She emphasized that assessment scores are not the sole determinant of the future. Every child has different forms of intelligence, strengths, and potential, so learning, diligence, and personal development remain important after the test is completed.

Results to support education mapping

The TKA is used as a standardized instrument to provide an overview of students' academic achievement. The results may be considered in selection for the next level of education in accordance with applicable regulations.

Aries said the TKA results could also be used as evaluation material to map learning needs, improve teacher competency, and support equal access to quality education. Therefore, the test is not only related to each participant's achievement but also provides an overview to support efforts to improve education.
