The Indonesian National Police reassigned and rotated 264 senior and mid-ranking officers in November 2026. According to Tribratanews of the Metro Jaya Regional Police, the decision is set out in National Police Chief Telegram No. ST/2467/XI/KEP./2026, dated November 2, 2026. The changes cover positions at national headquarters and regional commands, including several posts in the Central Java Regional Police.

Career development and organizational renewal

The head of the National Police Public Relations Division, Inspector General Johnny Eddizon Isir, said in Jakarta on November 3, 2026, that reassignments are part of organizational dynamics and personnel career development. He said rotations are necessary to maintain continuity of leadership while improving the effectiveness of police duties in addressing evolving challenges.

Of all the personnel reassigned, 224 fell into the promotion and lateral transfer categories, according to the Tribratanews Metro Jaya Regional Police report. The reassignments cover positions at the ranks of inspector general, brigadier general, and senior commissioner, including adjustments to position grading and promotions to head metropolitan and city police commands designated as Polrestabes, Polrestro, and Polresta.

Changes at National Police headquarters

At National Police headquarters, Senior Commissioner Gatot Sujono was appointed head of the National Police History Center. Senior Commissioner Teguh Wibowo was appointed head of National Police Headquarters Services. Both appointments were among the changes to strategic posts announced in this round of reassignments.

The National Police also promoted two female police officers, one to the rank of brigadier general and the other to senior commissioner. Johnny expressed appreciation for the service of the outgoing officials and asked the incoming officials to adapt promptly, familiarize themselves with their work environments, and continue programs and policies that have been running well.

Four positions in the Central Java Regional Police

Kompas reported that four Central Java Regional Police posts were included in this round of changes: head of the Professional and Security Division, head of the Operations Bureau, director of Intelligence and Security, and head of the Human Resources Bureau. Senior Commissioner Saiful Anwar, previously head of the Professional and Security Division, received a new assignment as Kalemkonprofpol Waketbidkermadianmas at STIK, the police science college under the National Police Education and Training Institute.

Senior Commissioner Heri Setyawan, previously head of the Personnel Rehabilitation Section in the National Police Professional and Security Division, took over as head of the Central Java Professional and Security Division. Senior Commissioner Soelistijono replaced Senior Commissioner Basya Radyananda as head of the Operations Bureau. According to CNN Indonesia, Saiful replaced Senior Commissioner Dhani Kristianto, who was assigned as deputy chief of the West Sumatra Regional Police.

The head of public relations for the Central Java Regional Police, Senior Commissioner Yuliyanto, described the changes as a mechanism for organizational development and career advancement, as quoted by Kompas from the official Klaten Police website on November 4, 2026. He expressed hope that the incoming officials would understand the characteristics of the region and improve performance while continuing to prioritize the public interest.

Context of the Islamic boarding school search

CNN Indonesia reported that the change in the head of the Professional and Security Division took place amid a case involving a search of the Hamalatul Quran Islamic Boarding School in Sukoharjo, Central Java. The search, conducted by a joint team from the Central Java Regional Police, Sukoharjo Police, and the Mobile Brigade Unit, took place on October 27, 2026, at around 3:20 a.m. Western Indonesian Time.

The operation was related to an investigation into the burning and vandalism of Warung Mi dan Babi Tepi Sawah in Parangjoro village, Grogol, Sukoharjo, on September 12, 2026. CNN Indonesia said the search caused unease within the boarding school community. The National Police stated that complaints about how it was conducted would be examined objectively and professionally through established procedures.

Although the two events occurred close together, the reported National Police explanation described the reassignments as career development and organizational renewal. No statement in those reports confirmed that the replacement of the head of the Professional and Security Division was a consequence of the boarding school search.
