Prospective iPhone Duo buyers face another consideration beyond the device's starting price of around Rp45 million: potential repair costs if damage occurs. According to a detikINET report on October 27, 2026, AppleCare+ is considered important for Apple's first-generation foldable device, although consumers are not required to purchase it.
Risk of high repair costs
Tech creator and Apple enthusiast Indra iTechLife considers AppleCare+ highly important for iPhone Duo owners. He highlighted the device's status as a first-generation product with a price above that of the premium iPhones previously sold by Apple.
The main consideration is the potentially high repair cost if the damage is not covered by the standard warranty. In the United States, the estimated cost of repairing the iPhone Duo's internal display without AppleCare+ is USD 999, or approximately Rp18 million. For other types of damage, the cost could reach USD 1,499, or approximately Rp27 million.
The highest repair estimate is equivalent to more than half the price of the least expensive iPhone Duo variant in Indonesia. However, these figures are estimates for the United States. Apple Authorized Service Providers may charge different amounts after inspecting the device's condition.
Differences between the warranty and additional protection
AppleCare+ is not mandatory for iPhone Duo buyers. The device still comes with Apple's standard warranty, which covers manufacturing defects in accordance with the applicable terms. However, the standard warranty does not cover accidental damage, such as a cracked screen caused by dropping the device.
Additional protection can help reduce service costs when such incidents occur. In Indonesia, protection for iPhones is offered from Rp1,599,000 for a two-year period. Service charges under AppleCare+ are separate from the price of the protection plan.
Before purchasing, consumers are advised to confirm the plan's price, coverage for the foldable display, and the claim terms applicable in Indonesia. This is important because the service fee structure and the results of the device inspection may affect the amount they must pay.
Risks of being an early adopter
Reports of screen damage have also drawn attention during the iPhone Duo's initial release period. Indra said that various issues surrounding the launch of a new iPhone are commonly encountered by technology reviewers. Therefore, the device's quality cannot be adequately assessed solely on the basis of a brief period of use.
According to Indra, updated reviews after three months, six months, and subsequent periods are necessary to assess the product's quality and durability over longer-term use. These observations can serve as one consideration for consumers when determining whether the device is worthwhile.
He also noted that early adopters need to understand the risks of buying a first-generation product. The final decision remains with each buyer, including whether the additional cost of protection is proportionate to the risks they may face.
Expectations for after-sales service
In addition to considering AppleCare+, attention is also focused on after-sales service in Indonesia. Indra hopes that iPhone Duo buyers will receive adequate service and protection so they can continue to feel comfortable and secure after purchasing a device that costs tens of millions of rupiah.
With a starting price of around Rp45 million and estimated repair costs that could reach tens of millions of rupiah, AppleCare+ is an option worth factoring in from the outset. The protection is not a substitute for careful handling, but it can help reduce the financial burden if accidental damage occurs that is not covered by the standard warranty.
