Samsung has once again used comparisons with Apple products to promote its foldable phone. In its latest video ad, a green apple is symbolically placed alongside the Galaxy Z Fold 8 in a jab at the iPhone Duo, Apple’s first foldable phone. The content also highlights Samsung’s claims about its device being thinner and lighter.

An apple tries to fold

The video, shared last week by the Instagram account @weareforeal, is paid partnership content with Samsung. It begins with a green apple being cut into several pieces, which then roll past a lineup of Samsung foldable phones from different generations.

The apple pieces then try to fold themselves but fail, losing the leaf instead. The Galaxy Z Fold 8 subsequently appears, with an emphasis on its design, which is claimed to be thinner and lighter. The ad says the Samsung device is 1.6 mm thinner and 53 grams lighter than the iPhone Duo. The video ends with an English-language slogan stating that it is years ahead in foldable devices.

Users divided in their response

According to Android Authority, the video received mixed reactions from internet users. Some enjoyed the way Samsung took a jab at a rival product, while others considered the approach childish.

This is not the first time Samsung has used this kind of promotional strategy. The South Korean company previously mocked the iPhone’s limitations through its Ingenius and Growing Up campaigns. Samsung has also featured a figure resembling Apple CEO Tim Cook praising its foldable phone.

Released as attention turns to the Duo’s screen

The latest ad appeared as several users complained that the iPhone Duo’s inner screen cracked shortly after the device was used. However, the existing reports are not sufficient to conclude that the cracking is a widespread defect.

As quoted by MacRumors, Apple said on Monday, October 26, that it was aware of an issue affecting the inner screens of a small number of iPhone Duo units. The company stressed that the issue had been found in only a limited number of devices and was not damage that users should expect to develop over time.

Cracks reported near the hinge

On affected units, the cracks reportedly appeared shortly after purchase. Some owners said the damage occurred while they were still completing the phone’s initial setup process.

According to MacRumors, cracks on several devices appeared in the same location: the bottom of the inner screen along the hinge. There were also reports that the hinge felt stuck and that a popping sound was heard shortly before the screen was damaged. Apple has not explained the cause of the cracks or the technical repair measures it plans to provide. Because the scope of the issue has not been established, reports from several users cannot yet be regarded as evidence of a problem affecting all iPhone Duo devices.
