The Corruption Eradication Commission has expanded its investigation into alleged corruption in the customs and excise sector involving PT Djarum. After searching the Kudus Customs and Excise Office and PT Djarum’s office, investigators visited six affiliated companies in Kudus and secured a number of documents and electronic evidence.
Searches expanded
According to CNBC Indonesia, KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo said on Friday, October 30, 2026, that six companies affiliated with PT Djarum had been searched. Investigators seized documents and several pieces of electronic evidence suspected of being related to the case.
The move was part of the expansion of the customs and excise investigation. The KPK issued a new investigation warrant in October 2026 and subsequently searched the Kudus Customs and Excise Office and PT Djarum’s office. ANTARA reported that the six affiliated companies were searched one day after the searches at those two locations.
On October 30, 2026, investigators also searched the Semarang Customs and Excise Office and the Central Java and Special Region of Yogyakarta Regional Customs and Excise Office in Semarang. The series of actions was intended to uncover evidence of alleged state losses in the excise sector.
Alleged arrangement of payments
The KPK suspects that arrangements were made so that PT Djarum’s excise payments did not match the amount that had been assessed. Budi Prasetyo explained that investigators were examining alleged arrangements that caused the payment amount to differ from the company’s actual obligation.
Acting KPK Director of Investigation Achmad Taufik Husein confirmed the allegation that the case had been ongoing since 2010, as reported by ANTARA. To examine the allegation, investigators are seeking documents from the years corresponding to the period in which the alleged offenses occurred.
The KPK has not provided details of the alleged methods used. Budi said the investigation remained at the evidence-gathering stage, including through searches conducted at several locations. The alleged arrangement must therefore still be proven through the legal process.
Losses and flow of funds under investigation
The KPK estimates that the preliminary value of state losses in the case is in the trillions of rupiah. However, the agency has not provided a more detailed figure because calculations and inquiries are still underway.
In addition to collecting evidence related to excise payments, investigators are examining the possibility that PT Djarum provided money to individuals within the Finance Ministry’s Directorate General of Customs and Excise. The KPK has not concluded whether such payments actually occurred.
The case originated from a sting operation within the Customs and Excise Directorate in February 2026. On July 21, 2026, the KPK announced the expansion of the case through two investigation warrants. Then, on October 28, 2026, the KPK announced a further expansion through a general investigation warrant before carrying out a series of searches in Kudus and Semarang.
PT Djarum’s response
PT Djarum Corporate Communications Manager Budi Darmawan told CNBC Indonesia that he was unaware of the details of the case under investigation. Nevertheless, he said the company respected and complied with the law and was cooperating with the KPK’s actions.
The statement represented the company’s response amid the evidence-gathering process. At the reported stage, the KPK was still examining when the alleged offenses occurred, the pattern of the suspected misconduct, the potential state losses, and the possible flow of funds to individuals within Customs and Excise.
