Marvel Studios has released a new Avengers: Doomsday poster focusing on Doctor Doom and three Latverian sorcerers. According to Kompas.com, the poster breaks an 18-year-old Marvel Cinematic Universe tradition by highlighting characters whose cast members have not been officially announced. The identities of the three sorcerers remain concealed behind masks and distinctive costumes.
Doctor Doom in the throne room
The latest poster shows Victor von Doom, played by Robert Downey Jr., standing inside Latveria’s throne room. The room is depicted as vast and somber, with green-and-gold stained-glass windows. Two torches burn on either side of the stairs leading to the throne, while a seal is engraved into the floor where Doom stands.
Three masked sorcerers stand on the stairs behind Doom. The figure on the left wears a purple mask, the character in the center is dressed in red, and the figure on the right appears in green. The different colors have prompted speculation that their costumes may offer clues to their respective identities, but there has been no official explanation of who they are.
A composition described as historic
Kompas.com reported that the poster is the first in the MCU’s 18-year history to feature characters without an official announcement about who plays them. It is also said to be the first MCU poster to feature four antagonists on their own.
An earlier solo poster of Doctor Doom for the same film was also considered a milestone because it featured a villain without any other characters. The presence of the three sorcerers alongside Doom in the new poster suggests that they may play important roles in the story. However, their identities, cast members, and positions in the film’s conflict have not been announced.
The Russo brothers, who are directing the film, are known for keeping important details about their Marvel films secret. Joe Russo has also described this version of Doom as an extremely powerful and calculating character who does not act spontaneously. Based on that statement, the presence of the three figures near him could be seen as a deliberate choice, although its true meaning can only be confirmed through an official explanation or once the film is released.
The Lord Doom name also draws attention
Amid the attention surrounding the poster, Doctor Doom’s name also became a topic of discussion after a Funko Concept Series collectible figure used the name Lord Doom. RRI.co.id, citing an October 12, 2026 report by The Direct, said the figure features a costume with elements associated with Latverian royalty, including the fictional country’s flag on its chest.
The name Lord Doom is considered consistent with Victor von Doom’s position as the ruler of Latveria. Nevertheless, the use of the name on merchandise does not prove that the character’s identity in the film will officially change. Marvel has not confirmed a name change from Doctor Doom to Lord Doom or fully explained the background behind his actions.
Robert Downey Jr.’s new role
Marvel Studios announced Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom at San Diego Comic-Con 2024. The decision marked Downey Jr.’s return to the MCU after previously appearing as Tony Stark, also known as Iron Man, including in Avengers: Endgame. This time, he plays a different character who could be at the center of the conflict.
Avengers: Doomsday is scheduled to open in Indonesia on December 16, 2026, according to a statement from Disney Indonesia reported by RRI.co.id. Its release in the United States is scheduled for December 18, 2026. So far, full details of the plot and the identities of the three Latverian sorcerers remain under wraps.
