A multi-vehicle crash involving a BYD electric car on Jalan Panglima Polim in Blok M, Kebayoran Baru, South Jakarta, has entered a further stage of investigation. Police named the driver, S, 46, as a suspect after the vehicle struck several cars and motorcycles on Friday, October 23, 2026. An online motorcycle taxi driver suffered serious injuries and remains hospitalized after undergoing surgery.

Driver named a suspect

Kompas.com reported that the decision to name S as a suspect was announced by Adjunct Senior Commissioner M. Adiel Aristo, head of the Law Enforcement Subdirectorate at the Jakarta Metropolitan Police Traffic Directorate, on Sunday, October 25, 2026. S remains under questioning, while investigators continue to gather evidence and examine the cause of the crash.

According to Adiel, preliminary questioning indicated that the driver said he was startled and panicked. However, as reported by CNN Indonesia, police have not concluded that this account explains the crash. Investigators are still examining the sequence of events and the factors that triggered the collisions.

Sequence of collisions on Panglima Polim

The crash occurred at around 4:48 p.m. Western Indonesian Time. According to a statement by Police Commissioner Kharisma Arbita Bangsa, head of the Accident Unit at the Law Enforcement Subdirectorate of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police Traffic Directorate, as published by CNN Indonesia, the BYD car was traveling north on Jalan Panglima Polim.

Upon reaching the area in front of Win Hotel, the car struck a Honda Brio traveling in the same direction ahead of it. The vehicle then swerved to the left and hit a Honda Beat motorcycle ridden by the online motorcycle taxi driver, as well as a Wuling car that was stopped along the roadside.

The BYD car then mounted the sidewalk and struck two vehicles parked in the Hotel Amaris area: a Honda Mobilio and a Toyota Navi. Police said six vehicles were involved in the series of collisions, including the BYD driven by S.

Victim undergoes surgery

The online motorcycle taxi driver was identified as Hasan Syukur, 56, who was also referred to as Agus in CNN Indonesia's report. Hasan suffered a fracture to his left leg and several abrasions. After the crash, he was taken to Fatmawati Hospital for treatment.

Adiel said Hasan had completed surgery and remained under observation by the medical team. Kompas.com reported that before the operation, the victim's condition was described as serious after he was struck and run over by the car.

Hasan's wife, Rohayah, 53, said her husband had also sustained fractures in several parts of his body from the shoulder area to the abdomen, including his back. According to Rohayah, Hasan underwent a series of surgical procedures on Saturday, October 24, 2026, and was using respiratory and digestive support equipment in the intensive care unit.

Investigation remains ongoing

Naming S as a suspect has not concluded the investigation. Police are continuing to examine the details of the incident and determine what caused the car to strike the vehicles ahead of it, move to the left, and then mount the sidewalk.

Amid the legal proceedings, Hasan's family is also facing concerns over the cost of his treatment. Rohayah said the family could not afford Hasan's medical expenses at Fatmawati General Hospital. The reports provided no further information about how the costs would be handled or about the victim's condition following the observation period.
